Horse Clinics & Workshops

A Flexible Learning Experience for Horse Owners and Caregivers

My clinics and workshops are created to support meaningful learning through observation, discussion, and guided practice. Each experience is shaped around what you and your group would like to explore, whether that involves communication, behavior, riding, or relationship-based care.

Through horse clinics and workshops, I focus on helping participants understand how horses communicate physically, emotionally, and behaviorally. Sessions are structured to encourage awareness, calm handling, and respectful interaction while remaining practical and grounded in real-world situations.

All clinics are designed to feel supportive, clear, and organized, allowing participants to learn at a steady pace while keeping the well-being of the horses at the center of the experience.

Horse Clinics and Workshops

Horse Clinics and Workshops shift the focus from what a horse does to why they do it, viewing unwanted behaviors as expressions of unmet needs. The goal is to foster a partnership where the horse genuinely wants to be with you.

Horse Communication

Core Principles of Penny’s Horse Clinics

  • Mind/Emotions: Recognizing that the horse's mental state controls its body, aiming to build a stronger equine relationship through confidence and safety. The horse’s mental state is largely motivated and directed by its emotional state, so we aim to become aware of and influence that state. Animal Communication allows us to hear what the horse is thinking or feeling directly from the horse.
  • Space: Understanding spatial dynamics and including spatial awareness as part of a conversation. Spatial pressure is one of the non-verbal ways that horses communicate with each other. Noticing and understanding this language allows us to use space subtly to communicate with the horse.
  • Addressing Physical Needs: Fostering the equine connection through bodywork and movement-awareness exercises. Being aware of the wide variety of complementary ways to help a horse with soundness and movement challenges.
  • Develop Empathy: Looking deeper than just the behavior to understand the underlying intention of both the horse and self. Seeing the horse’s needs and intentions through nonverbal Animal Communication and emotional awareness.

Key Goals:

  • Improve the relationship between horse and human
  • Build Trust: Earn the horse's confidence through understanding and empathy
  • Empower Horses: Help them release tension and pain to move more freely
  • Deepen Connection: Create a relationship where the horse desires to be with the handler
  • Self-Growth: Encourage handlers to become better versions of themselves, fostering personal development alongside horsemanship

Custom Design for Your Group

One of the strengths of horse clinics and workshops is flexibility. I work directly with you to understand what you would like your group to gain from the experience. This allows the content, structure, and pacing to align with your needs.

Sessions may focus on groundwork, riding balance, emotional steadiness, physical comfort, or relationship-based handling. I emphasize understanding how and why techniques are used so participants can apply what they learn with clarity and confidence.

Format and Duration

I offer several format options to support different schedules and learning goals. My horse clinics and workshops are planned in advance to ensure a smooth and organized experience.

  • Workshops: Half-day or full-day sessions
  • Clinics: One-day to multi-day formats

Longer pet clinics allow time for deeper exploration, repeated practice, and progressive learning, while shorter workshops work well for focused topics or introductory sessions.

Group Size and Learning Environment

Group size is discussed ahead of time to support a productive and calm learning environment. Smaller groups allow for individual attention, while observation is always encouraged as part of the learning process.

My approach to horse clinics and workshops supports learning through clarity, patience, and respectful interaction, ensuring both participants and horses remain comfortable throughout the session.

“Penny is a godsend on steroids.”

After rescuing my two white mules four years ago, I was desperate for knowledge on how to train and heal them from their traumas, as I had no experience with equines. I met many people who claimed expertise, but I often found them disconnected from the true art of connecting with animals. It left me feeling alone and overwhelmed.

Meeting Penny changed everything. Her intuitive and grounded approach, along with her down-to-earth attitude, gave me the confidence and relief I needed. My first session with Penny confirmed that she truly understands animals and how to guide both them and their humans.

Penny’s work with me and my mules was like a godsend on steroids! The help we received was uniquely tailored to our needs, offering both practical advice and energetic support. As someone new to the equine world, I am so grateful to have found Penny, who truly embodies the privilege of connecting with animals.

I strongly recommend Penny’s guidance for both beginners and seasoned equine partners.

“The horses love it, and so do we.”

After using Penny's work, I was delighted when my horse, Goldie, completed our 25 mile endurance ride at the Last Hoorah in the top ten with better scores than usual. It was truly amazing, as this was on a brutal day with high heat and humidity when 60% of the horses were unable to complete the ride.

You are such a natural with your horse body work, the horses love it, and so do we.
